In Afghanistan, Spring has officially arrived. All around the country signs are pointing to the changing season – the snow is melting, the trees are blooming and days are progressively getting longer. Perhaps most importantly, today is Nawruz – a Persian word meaning “a new day.”
Roots of Peace Founder/CEO, Heidi Kuhn, and President, Gary Kuhn, traveled with ABC7 News Anchor Cheryl Jennings to Afghanistan to produce a five-part news series featuring Roots of Peace. They met privately with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, General John F. Campbell, U.S. Ambassador Michael McKinley, and USAID Mission Director William Hammink to discuss our ongoing agricultural programs. This was a historic event for Roots of Peace and a symbolic gesture from the Afghan government to show their support of civil society and alternatives to war in the country.
