ROOTS OF PEACE HOSTS AMBASSADOR SICHAN SIV, AUTHOR, GOLDEN BONES: JOURNEY OF HOPE FROM MINEFIELDS OF CAMBODIA TO CHERRY BLOSSOMS OF THE WHITE HOUSE

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA UNITES TO SUPPORT HEALING OF BONES LOST TO LANDMINES

July 30, 2008 - Marin County, California - Ambassador Sichan Siv is the author of "GOLDEN BONES: An Extraordinary Journey from Hell in Cambodia to a New Life in America" (Harper), which recounts the journey from humble beginnings in the landmine-riddled villages of Cambodia, to the White House, and the United Nations. Roots of Peace, a California based non-profit organization, will host a special event featuring the compelling story of a timeless and universal tale of love, dreams, hope and freedom, as the author will speak at BORDERS, 588 Francisco Blvd, West, San Rafael, Marin County, California on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 7:00 PM.

Cambodia is one of the most heavily mined areas in the world - some estimates run as high as 6 million landmines in a country with a population of 14.2 million people, according to the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC). "The legacy of three decades of war has taken a severe toll on the Cambodian people; some 40,000 people live as amputees - among the highest rates in the world. This is why Roots of Peace salutes the efforts of the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Sichan Siv from the heart of Marin County where the vision of the United Nations began in 1945 beneath the towering redwood trees of Muir Woods. Together, we invite our community to continue to remove landmines, which hold the farmers' land hostage in Cambodia, truly sustaining "golden bones" rather than shattered bones - for future generations," says Heidi Kuhn, Founder/CEO, Roots of Peace.

Roots of Peace is honored to host Ambassador Sichan Siv at this book signing.  Contributions may be made towards demining and replanting in Cambodia through Roots of Peace.  For further information on Roots of Peace, please visit www.rootsofpeace.org or call 415-455-8008.
