Penny Campaign SponsorsWe would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support.
ABC 7/KGO TV We are grateful to Cheryl Jennings, ABC 7/KGO TV news anchor, for co-founding the Roots of Peace Penny Campaign with Kyleigh and Heidi Kuhn. Cheryl and her station have given tremendous visibility to our campaign, the important issue of landmines and the impact on kids in war-torn countries such as Afghanistan.
Bank of Marin As our banker, Bank of Marin has gone beyond the "typical" banking relationship. The bank helps get the word out about the Penny Campaign and participates themselves in the campaign with signs and coin collection canisters in all of their branches. The bank also made a generous donation of their own pennies to help launch our campaign in September 2004.
Loomis Fargo & Co. Loomis plays a vital role in making our program easy for our participants by picking up the donated coins from participating schools and businesses and ensuring the donations make it safely to our bank account at Bank of Marin. Their support continued in 2004 when we asked their help in expanding our campaign beyond Marin County to the Greater Bay Area. In addition to coin pick-ups, they've participated in school events and made a generous donation of their own pennies to help launch our campaign in September 2004.
Marin Independent Journal The Marin Independent Journal has generously donated ad space to raise visibility of our program and maintain program momentum throughout our campaign. We are also thankful for their continued coverage of our efforts in published news articles.
U.S. Department of State Roots of Peace has been a public-private partner of the U.S. Department of State Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA) since our inception. PM/WRA has taken particular interest in supporting our efforts to engage youth in the landmine issue. We are grateful for their generous support of our program expansion through funding the development of our "Making Change Work" video and the expansion of the Roots of Peace web site.
United Nations "Ten years ago, we celebrated the opening for signature of the landmark Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction." "Since then, the international community has come a long way in its quest to build a mine-free world. Legal trade in anti-personnel landmines has stopped, and no state party to the Convention still uses these devices. Tens of millions of stockpiled landmines have been destroyed. Land has been cleared and returned to communities for safe and productive use. One hundred fifty-five countries have joined the Convention. No major multilateral treaty in history became law as quickly as this one... Ten years on, Roots of Peace has become a force for peace. I applaud its successes, and thank all its supporters for making our partnership such a fruitful one." — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
