UNDP AFGHANISTAN and ROOTS OF PEACE teamed up for an Int’l Women's Day Event in Abu Dhabi, highlighting Women Business Leaders of Afghanistan on March 6th.

As the proud recipient of FORBES 50 Over 50, Heidi Kuhn, CEO, Roots of Peace is attending FORBES 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi. As a result, ROP partnered with the UNDP’s Afghanistan Office, to host a landmark International Women’s Day event in Abu Dhabi on March 6th, 2022 dedicated to the recognition of some astounding guests: Afghanistan’s leading women entrepreneurs and business leaders.

The event targeted the global leaders who will be joining the Forbes 30/50 Summit, which will proceed
concurrently in Abu Dhabi from March 6-9. This event showcased the work of multiple Afghan women who have overcome incredible challenges and obstacles in becoming successful leaders in business and enterprise.

UNDP, Roots of Peace, and Champion Women leaders symbolize the resilience of Afghan women across the country, and of the potential that could be unlocked by the sustainable peace in Afghanistan that UNDP and Roots of Peace are working to cultivate– one built on modern agricultural techniques, ethical business practices, safety for all people.

For over twenty years, Roots of Peace has worked to turn “mines to vines” in Afghanistan, helping to replace 100,000 land mines with 6 million fruit trees across the country’s war-torn lands. Afghanistan is a country 80% dependent upon agriculture for jobs, and our humanitarian efforts are feeding a nation that is now starving during the harsh winter months. Roots of Peace is a recipient of the FORBES 50 Over 50 Women of Impact—who are featuring its proud partnership with UNDP to cultivate peace through agriculture and continue the ‘business of peace’ with Afghan women who contribute to their society on multiple levels (agribusiness, design, jewelry, carpet).

UNDP and Roots of Peace are pleased to be able to recognize these incredible Afghan Women entrepreneurs and business leaders and their contribution to the international and national economy. These women are beacons of hope and inspiration for women across Afghanistan– and the world. This event was a showcase for Afghan culture and the plight of Afghan women and to show the world that it must aid them in building sustainable peace and prosperity in their country.
